Hundreds of millions of pounds

leave our city every year

in profits extracted by energy companies.

We’d rather keep it here.

We are residents of hull who believe we should own and control our own energy system

keeping power and wealth in our city and in our hands

making sure people can afford the energy they need

and reducing our impact on the planet

The energy system is broken:

  • We pay more than we should — pumping money out of our communities to line the pockets of the rich

  • Meanwhile, 1 in 10 UK households (and 1 in 5 in Hull) live in fuel poverty, and have to choose between eating and heating their homes

  • And we continue to make energy from dirty sources — putting shareholder profits before the planet and our children’s future

The energy companies aren’t changing.

Petitioning the government doesn’t help.

We don’t have any say.

If we want a better system,

we have to build it ourselves.

POWER PLANGEO is our key project — a first step in building a new energy system, from the ground up, within our broken reality. An energy system owned and run by the community, which

  • is cheaper for consumers,

  • generates more income for homes and businesses with solar panels,

  • is greener, locally-based, and more robust, and

  • builds a stronger, wealthier, and more connected community.

At its core, POWER PLANGEO is an Energy Local Club covering the ‘Plangeo’ substation area (shown in the map below — it covers much of HU3 and parts of HU4 and HU5).

If you live in this area, or run a building in it, you could join the club!

The magic of the club is that people with solar panels can sell their extra energy directly to consumers in the area, rather than selling it to the grid only for their neighbours to buy it back at a premium!

All this will be managed through the POWER ASSEMBLY a local democratic structure where everyone has a fair say in pricing and deciding how we use any money generated.

To kick off POWER PLANGEO, we’re getting people and businesses who already have solar panels into the club, as well as a group of consumers, so we can get going without having to fundraise for any new infrastructure.

~ IN THE FUTURE ~ the club will grow by installing new solar panels on businesses, schools, and homes in the area funded through grants, community investment, or crowdfunding.
